Thornhill, E.B.

Chief Engineer of LNWR from pre-1893 to 30 September 1909. Member of 1905 REA committee on "Standardization of Permanent Way Rail Joints", see Ross_1905.

Consulting Engineer in practice at Westminster, London, in 1889. President of the PWI, 1889. Photo in PWI 100 years p.16.

Trench, Ernest F. Crosbie

Born 6 August 1869 at Ardfert Abbey, Kerry, Ireland. Died 15 September 1960. In 1893 became pupil of E.B. Thornhill, who was Chief Engineer of LNWR. Became Chief Engineer of LNWR from 1 October 1909. Became Chief Engineer of LMSR where it is generally agreed that he was obstructive towards locomotive policy. Retired 1930. See Marshall.
